Nathan Spalding (he/him) is a Senior Associate Program Officer for Builders Initiative, supporting the development and management of grantees committed to innovating the Midwest agriculture landscape in service of climate and communities.

Prior to joining Builders, Nathan owned a pottery business in Des Moines, Iowa, where he created pottery for everyday use and hosted Queer Clay Nights for the LGBTQIA+ community. Previously, he was the Iowa Program Associate Director for FoodCorps, supporting AmeriCorps members and community partners to increase access to food education and locally-sourced meals in Iowa elementary schools. He also co-chaired the Iowa Farm to School and Early Care Coalition, a state network dedicated to increasing access to locally-grown food while promoting market development for producers. Nathan began his career as a FoodCorps AmeriCorps member in Connecticut and Iowa, delivering food, gardening, and cooking lessons and supporting local procurement in school food programs.

Originally from Kentucky, Nathan studied Environmental Studies and Spanish at Cornell College in Iowa. Now a Chicago resident, in his freetime you can find him nerding out about Midwest plants, throwing on the pottery wheel, and exploring restaurants with his partners.
